Why take an MBA from the University of Northern Washington?If you are planning to pursue a career in management, the MBA Program at the University of Northern Washington is designed for you. It will also help if you have a specialist qualification but have ambitions to acquire a broader business qualification incorporating enhanced managerial skills. You will feel that the effort is worthwhile in terms of your increased self-confidence, your enhanced effectiveness and your increased value as an employee. If you have the ability to take the MBA program at UNW, and the personal qualities to take full advantage of it, then what you are doing today, what your title is now and how much salary you command, are all irrelevant to the position you could enjoy after completion of your MBA. While the MBA program is designed to improve the personal effectiveness of practicing managers, it is nonetheless an academically demanding and intellectually rigorous program that students find stimulating as well as demanding. Most students will need to devote as much as 8 to 10 hours to their studies every week in addition to preparing for examinations, which requires them to manage their time effectively. Personal commitment is crucial to making satisfactory progress in the course over the period of study. The syllabus for the MBA program has 45 credits.
Prerequisites for MBAAll applicants must have a combination of a minimum 1-year's cumulative relevant work experience, plus either a bachelor's degree or an accepted professional qualification. Applicants will be required to provide documentary evidence of any relevant qualifications that they hold. Applicants who do not meet the above requirements may be admitted in the first instance to study for the Advanced Diploma in Business Administration. In their first year these students receive the same course material and follow the same studies as MBA students. Upon successful completion of 18 credits, including passing all examinations, they will be able to continue working towards the MBA. Applicants whose native language is not English will be required to provide evidence of their competence in the English language, normally through an approved test.
Criteria For AdmissionUnlike schools that use only grade point and testing information to make admission decisions, the University of Northern Washington evaluates all candidates in a comprehensive manner, using both objective and subjective criteria. The University of Northern Washington adheres to a strict anti-discriminatory policy and admits students of any age, race, sex, color, and national/ethnic origin. Evaluations of an applicant's ability to pursue studies at the University of Northern Washington are based on prior college/university credits, examinations, advanced placement scores, experiential learning, and other factors that may be indicative of future academic success. Students selected for admission are those presenting the most competitive applications and who are considered most likely to be successful, contributing members of the community and to graduate from The University of Northern Washington. The following factors are used to reach an admission decision: 1. The students ACADEMIC RECORD and WORK EXPERIENCE are the most important elements used in making admission decisions at The University of Northern Washington. Overall preparation, maturity and past performance are considered. 2. An ESSAY (Statement of Interest) is required of all candidates. The essay provides a sample of original written work and further insight into the candidate. 3. EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES are reviewed to assess what a candidate has accomplished outside of the classroom, noting leadership positions held, previous work experience and sustained interest in individual activities. 4. Two reference letters are required from present or former teachers, employers, or business peers. Recommendation letters from friends or parents are optional. All recommendation letters provide further background information about the student. 5. Admission to the University of Northern Washington is competitive; students are selected on the basis of their prior academic performance and work experience. 6. All who wish to apply to the University of Northern Washington must complete an Application for Admission. Each application will be individually evaluated. The University of Northern Washington considers all applicants for admission without regard to age, race, color, religion, national/ethnic origin, or sex. An applicant will not be considered registered until the University of Northern Washington has received the required tuition payment.
Transferring to UNWThe University of Northern Washington accepts students who wish to transfer from another institution of higher education. LoansFor students who must finance some portion of their studies, a limited number of student loan plans are available from the Career Development Loans department of the University of Northern Washington. For information please contact the Registrar.
How to ApplyThere are two ways to apply for admission. First, complete and return the enclosed Application for Admission Form through the mail or via the Internet. The Admissions Committee will consider your application once all supporting documents and the application fee have been received. Submitting an incomplete application will cause a delay in processing and subsequent evaluation. Successful applicants will be offered registration, which is completed by enrolling for the program. Applicants may complete and return the enrollment form with the application form. In this case the payment will be held and actioned as soon as application has been accepted.
